NOT MADE TO FLOAT.
MADE TO GLOW.
Every board starts as raw glass and heat — hand-textured, kiln-formed, and lit from within, so it becomes something a wood surfboard simply cannot become.

MORE THAN A BOARD. IT’S A VIBE.
Wood is classic. We respect it. But wood won’t light up a room. It won’t make your guests stop in their tracks at midnight.
Our fused glass surfboards do.
Surf Culture. Reimagined.

SCULPTED BY HAND. ILLUMINATED FROM WITHIN.
Driven by our proprietary Ambiance Machine, each hand-sculpted glass masterpiece achieves a luminosity that traditional wood could never match. This is no longer just a surfboard — it is a transcendent nocturnal experience.
Possessing the primal draw of a roaring beach fire on a dark night, it warms and commands the room, casting an otherworldly glow that redefines coastal luxury.
This is midnight surfing. Moondoggie approved.
BRING YOUR OWN WAVE
Sketch it on a napkin. Send us a photo of a wave that means something to you. Describe it in one sentence. However it starts — we can put it in the glass.
BUILD YOUR BOARD
Six choices. Then we pick up the phone and make it real.
Downing Designs
Not made to float. Made to glow.
Pick a shape, a pattern, and your lighting and watch the board light up. Everything is hand-made in kiln-formed glass in Tampa. When it looks right, copy the spec or call and we will quote it.
Shape
Choose a shape from our board inventory, then set the length. Width follows the shape.
Tier
The tier sets the starting price.
Texture pattern
Choose one of our three patterns, or draw your own and submit it. We share a 3D model for your approval before firing, and any artwork you submit is rendered onto your board.
Your artwork is previewed on the board here only. To submit it, text or email the original file and we will build the 3D model for approval.
Fins
Glass fins in the profile you choose, or draw your own and we will confirm the template with you.
Text or email us a sketch of your fin and we will return a template to approve.
Rail edging
Luthier-fabricated so the rail hides the internal LED wiring without breaking the board's profile.
Lighting
Single-zone lights the whole board in one color. Dual-zone gives port and starboard independent control.
Sandblasted logo
Your logo is sandblasted into the surface of the board as a frosted mark. Email your logo as a PNG, JPG, or SVG to [email protected] and we position it with you offline, confirming size and placement before anything is blasted.
A dark logo on a white background works best, or send a transparent PNG.
Your build
Every board is quoted individually. Delivery is included upfront in your quote, so the total is clear from the start.
THE COLLECTION
At noon, it’s sculpture. At midnight, it’s an event.
J-Bay — Commission
Fully bespoke. Client-directed concept, custom frit branding, exotic rail woods, multi-zone programmable lighting. Named for the longest, most perfect wave on Earth.
Pipeline
Freestanding or coffee-table format, ~84–96″. Dual-zone independent port/starboard LED lighting, luthier-crafted rail edging, 1-fin or 3-fin. Our flagship.
Rincon
Wall-mounted or leaning display, ~60–72″. Dual-side texture, single-zone LED lighting, choice of 1 fin. Named for the point break surfers call “Queen of the Coast.”
Malibu
Wall-mounted, ~36–42″. Single-side hand texture, one signature pattern of your choice. The entry point into the collection — still entirely hand-built, still entirely one-of-a-kind.
Personal delivery throughout Florida and nearby states — for larger commissions, Jeff has been known to load the board into his own truck and drive it to you himself. Beyond that range, every board travels in a custom-built crate with extensive foam padding around the fins and railing, fully insured, with the delivery price included upfront in your quote.
FAQ
How much do the Glass Surfboards from Downing Designs cost?
All surfboards start at $5K, and fully bespoke J-Bay commissions start at $29K and go up from there. Let’s start the conversation — quotes are free, and I assure you there’s no more fun to be had than discussing how you want your board to look on display in your home or commercial establishment.
Can I bring my own design?
Yes — text Jeff a sketch, even a rough one, or a photo of a wave that means something to you. We render it digitally so you can see it before anything is fabricated, you approve the render, we build it, and we deliver. Your idea, scaled up to a board.
Does it float or work in water?
No, and it’s guaranteed to sink. It’s solid hand-textured glass, roughly 1.5 inches thick and several hundred pounds — built as sculptural art and functional furniture, most commonly displayed as wall art or used as a coffee table. With proper supports, a board is strong enough to be stood upon by several people at once.
Can I get 3 fins instead of 1?
Yes. Fin configuration is fully customizable on the Rincon and Pipeline sizes, offered in either a classic 1-fin longboard silhouette or an aggressive 3-fin thruster silhouette.
Can you fuse my logo or a custom design into the glass permanently?
Yes. Custom frit branding is available on all sizes and is a standard feature of our J-Bay commission tier — the design is fired directly into the glass during fabrication, not applied afterward.
How long does a custom glass surfboard take to build?
Fabrication is a multi-week hand process from design approval to completion, with commission-tier pieces taking longer depending on complexity of the lighting and rail work.
How is my glass surfboard shipped, and how are the fins and other features protected?
We deliver personally within Florida and nearby states — for larger commissions, Jeff has been known to load the board into his own truck and make a multi-day trip of it. Outside that range, every board is securely crated with extensive foam padding built around the fins, rail edging, and any protruding features. Shipping is fully insured and available nationally. The delivery price is always included upfront in your quote, so the total cost is 100% clear from the start — no hidden extras, ever.
Built to be seen. Built to be remembered.
