Our glass countertops are made from PPG Starphire glass. Even though they are usually 1.5″ thick, and have heavy texturing on the underside, they are mostly transparent to the support structures beneath them. In the case of kitchen and bath cabinets, this is not the best looking outcome. The solution is simple…we recommend adding some form of laminate atop the cabinetry. Your cabinet maker can do this…your GC can do this…or we can do this.
Our favorite laminate under our glass is from Chemetal..#791 Natural Polished Aluminum
Trust us, even if you have stainless steel appliances, this is not a clash. For some reason, it looks better to us than stainless steel laminates, and even better than white laminate. When we show side-by-side comparisons, the shadows and depth of texture are all enhanced with Chemetal #791. I do not know why, but our clients know beautiful when they see it…and lately, this is the only substrate they have been selecting.
