It is not often that we have a client that expresses a desire for our custom Glass Stair Treads for a Spiral Staircase.

This blog was initiated after completing the most spectacular project we have ever undertaken.

If pictures are worth 1000 words, then here’s the easiest blog read you will ever have…enjoy. We have tried through photographs and videos to capture the rapture of the effect of walking in to this home, and seeing the luminous Glass Stair Treads front and center…it is mesmerizing. Our glass bar tops are a spectacle as well, but the glass treads illuminated dominate the visual space in a way that we have never seen.

Glass stair treads, coupled with glass railings and landings are a must-see-to-believe architectural feature for your home.

I can verify that walking on these glass stairs treads is like walking on a cloud…its a real joy…especially at night where the LED lights create a stunning visual…a real statement piece unlike any we have ever seen.

There is precedent for such an ethereal design. In his TED talk, Ross Lovegrove discusses his DNA-1 staircase project installed in his design studio. Says Ross humorously: “It’s a single element, there is virtually no handrail, you wouldn’t want to have a fear of heights coming down it…it doesn’t pass any safety standards…but who cares?!?! “

In our project we partnered with a client in St Petersburg, FL to remodel his home. The spiral staircase was dated but well-built, and we used its existing wood stringers to support our 1.5” thick textured glass treads. The client also updated his railing system with Curved Glass Creations.

We have created glass stairs with stainless steel as the staircase material and the result was equally spectacular. The staircase material, railing system, and glass stair tread combinations are limitless. The addition of these walkable skylights on the staircase adds even more spectacular lighting and a unique design element to the space.

A recent project gave us the opportunity to create a large stainless steel stair case with glass stair treads. It was a condominium, and it had to be able to fit inside the service elevator. Modular construction was therefore needed.Our metal fabricator, Matt Hall, is extremely knowledgeable about stainless steel stair case design, as well as the state building codes governing their installation and fabrication. Matt is a very creative and talented metal fabricator, and was able to offer several design versions to the client, each with a sleek, contemporary look…and that would fit into the condominium elevator. Once selected, Matt fabricated the stainless stairs to specification and drove (from Tampa to Texas) with the stair case and glass stairs treads, which along with stainless railings and cable stays, were installed in less than 2 days. We met him there on day 2 and attached our glass stairs to the stainless risers using an instant cure UV adhesive. People were able to walk on these stairs 5 minutes after the glass was attached to the stainless…pretty impressive.

The result is a very modern stainless steel and glass stair case, and shows the creativity that can be unleashed when expertise is coordinated in several areas to produce a result beyond what any one fabricator could achieve.
