Project Showcase · Naples, Florida

A 126-inch arced glass high bar floating on aircraft aluminum cantilever brackets — zero holes through the glass, hurricane eye centered in the texture, RGB LED running the full arc. The gravitational center of an after-hours party.

Project Summary

This arc-shaped custom curved glass bar top was designed and fabricated by Downing Designs, Tampa, FL for a luxury home in Collier County, Naples, Florida. The brief was a sleek modern glass bar top with a texture that flowed within the arced form and invited guests in from either end — positioned in front of a beautiful wine room as the centerpiece of the home's entertaining space.

The hurricane eye texture was engineered slightly off-center — allowing a deeper kiln carving at that focal point and ensuring the cantilevered support brackets could be placed without interrupting the most dramatic part of the design. The LED channel was hand-formed on an English wheel to follow the arc precisely, delivering seamless illumination around the full curve with no visible hot spots.

Why is the hurricane eye off-center?

The hurricane eye is the most visually dramatic element of this texture — the deepest kiln carving, the focal point the eye finds first when approaching the bar. Centering it would have placed it directly where the cantilevered support bracket needed to go.

By engineering the eye slightly off-center, we achieved two things simultaneously: the deepest carving is at the most optically available position on the surface, and the bracket placement is structurally correct without compromising the design. This is what it means to engineer the texture and the structure together from the beginning — rather than designing the surface first and working around the hardware later.

How is a curved LED channel fabricated for an arced bar top?

Standard LED channels are straight. A curved glass bar top requires the channel to follow the radius of the glass perimeter precisely — otherwise the light source drifts away from the edge at the curve and the illumination becomes uneven.

For this Naples installation, the stainless C-channel was hand-formed on an English wheel — a metalworking tool that curves sheet metal incrementally without distorting its profile. The result is a channel that follows the arc of the glass exactly, maintaining consistent proximity to the edge across the full 126-inch run. The illumination is seamless. There are no hot spots and no dark sections at the curve. This level of fabrication detail is not available from a supplier catalog. It is made in our Tampa shop, specifically for this piece.

Does Downing Designs fabricate custom glass bar tops for luxury homes in Naples and Collier County?

Yes. Naples is within our primary Gulf Coast service corridor. Downing Designs has fabricated and installed custom glass bar tops, countertops, and architectural glass surfaces for luxury residential clients in Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island, and the surrounding Collier County communities.

We travel to the residence for on-site templating and return for installation. For clients in Naples, the consultation typically begins remotely by phone or video, with studio visits available for clients who want to see the glass and the LED demonstration before committing to a design.
