Curved Illuminated Glass Bar Top — Naples, Florida
Before she described the shape, the size, or the space, she told me the color. Not a mood, not a direction — a specific shade of Deep Purple. She texted a photo. We matched it in the studio before the contract was signed. She accepted the same day.
Project Summary
This curved glass bar top was fabricated and installed by Downing Designs, Tampa, FL for a private luxury residence in Naples, Florida — a custom RGB-matched glass high bar designed around a specific color, a specific room, and a specific life.
The client's husband is a working rock and roll musician — session player, studio owner, career documented on walls. The room surrounding this bar is covered in awards, platinum records, and framed memorabilia accumulated over decades. A Ludwig Beatles drum head hangs directly above the bar. The walls are a timeline. The bar is the centerpiece.
Installing a hand-formed piece of glass in a room like that puts the work in perspective. It has to hold its own. This one does.

Can you match a specific color before fabrication begins?
Yes — and for clients with a precise color vision, this is exactly how we prefer to work. At the Downing Designs studio in Tampa, we maintain working LED-lit glass bar top samples that allow us to dial in any RGB value before a contract is signed.
On this Naples project, the client sent a photo of her intended shade of purple via text. We tuned the RGB controller on a studio sample to match it, photographed the result under realistic room conditions, and sent it back for approval with the quote. She accepted the same day. Seeing the actual light through actual glass eliminates guesswork and gives both parties confidence before fabrication begins. That is the Ambiance Machine™ working before the glass is ever cut.
What makes a curved glass bar top more complex than a straight one?
A straight bar top is dimensioned from a measurement. A curved bar top is fabricated from a radius — and that radius must be confirmed in the field, not assumed from a floor plan. We template the arc on-site, transferring the exact geometry of the room to the shop before any glass is cut or fired.
The kiln mold, the edge profile, the LED channel, and the bracket positions all follow the confirmed radius. Any deviation compounds through the build. On a raised high bar designed to crown a curved lower structure, precision at the template stage is what determines whether the finished piece reads as architecturally resolved — or visually approximate.
How does RGB LED illumination work in a hand-textured glass bar top?
Dot-less RGB LED strips are fitted to the inside perimeter of the glass and housed in a metal channel that diffuses the light evenly before it enters the glass edge. In a flat-polished bar top, that light travels in a relatively uniform plane. In a hand-textured kiln-formed bar top, the carved surface topography — ridges, valleys, and organic contours pressed into the glass before firing — refracts the light differently at every point.
The result is a surface that appears to have depth and movement rather than uniform illumination. The color shifts in character as you move around the bar. That behavior is specific to hand-textured glass and cannot be replicated with polished or cast material.
Do you fabricate custom glass bar tops for private residences in Naples, Florida?
Yes. Naples is within our primary service corridor along Florida's Gulf Coast, and private luxury residential projects represent a significant portion of our commission work. We travel to the residence for templating and return for installation.
For clients in the Naples, Bonita Springs, and Marco Island area, the consultation typically begins remotely — by phone or video — and we use studio samples and our RGB demonstration capability to align on design intent before scheduling the site visit. If you have a specific space, color, or configuration in mind, the fastest way to begin is a direct conversation.
